Alot of people think that just because they read the bible ONCE or TWICE entitles them a scholar on all about what the bible means, including it's historical and scientific aspects. They read it from cover to cover, but very little do they study the actual context they are reading.
Anyone can read the bible. Atheists and Christians alike. But to fully understand the context and accuracy of the Bible, you have to STUDY. Study about the historical cultures inside it, the authors, the time-lines, the historical evidence we can find today, the connections it validates.
Alot of militant atheists or anti-theists will take verses from the Christian Bible that supposedly "condone" evils such as rape, murder, sexism, etc, or "contradict" about God's nature. They make a huge fuss about it saying that it's "proof" that the Bible is a book of lies and deceit when we could just easily do the same technique with any other book to create our own desired effect on those who don't know any better. They will even try to use text that are not even found in the Bible but from the Qu'ran, the Mormon Bible, or books of other religions. There is a major difference between them and the Bible -- they are not ones of the same origin or contain the same beliefs.
I believe all parts of the bible are true, including the "bad" things anti-theists seem to find, in either historical or cultural context, or moral foundation. I don't take all of it too literal or too just without doing study into it first. I believe we ALL must do this first before we try to make arguments and insults at one another.
Christians, you are not off the hook here. STUDY THE BIBLE BEFORE YOU MAKE ARGUMENTS FOR YOUR FAITH.
When you just put out a topic without having knowledge about it, you will look like a fool. I'm saying that you must use your head. Now, it's fine if you are asked a question or faced with a challenge you don't know anything about yet. Just tell them the truth and do all you can to give reason accurately, and then make a note to actually look into that topic later. Don't be intimidated by people who call you "stupid" or "illogical". Stay strong and have faith. <3
